Five Favorites

1.

I picked these up in the impulse aisle that you are forced to wait in at Joann Fabrics.  I wear them all of the time.  Susan has her own pair.  If you wear tall boots, you need these.

2.  If you are ever in St. Louis, this is my happy place.

2 1/2. Best piece of advice I got from the employee at Chuck's Boot Store, "Wear capri pants with your tall boots."

3, 4, and 5.  While I'm waiting to hear who the next Papa is, I'm going to watch these two films available on Amazon Instant Video and your local library, but not from Netflix streaming.

About a fictional pope.  I haven't seen this one yet.

And this one which we own...

Sure beats watching that pipe they call a chimney.
Know of any other Pope-ily movies?  Besides Sister Act (eye-roll at you, Donaldson).

Linking up with the lovely Hallie at Moxie Wife.

  1. Shoes of the Fisherman is neat b/c it shows inside the Conclave, the smashing of the Papal ring, the smoke, etc. The Scarlet & the Black is a great one too. :)

  2. Sister Act FOREVAH!!!!!
Capri pants with tall boots? I'll have to give it a try. I usually hate capri pants on me, since they manage to hit right at the least flattering point of my calf.

    1. I don't have to "tight-roll" my pants, 80s style when I wear capris with boots. I still wear the boot straps to prevent ride up. Warning: Does not work with cargo style capris.

  3. Love the Scarlet and the Black...maybe watching some of those movies will help take me focus off the smoke patrol?? ;-)

    1. Gregory Peck: love, Christopher Plummer: love (totes wanted to marry that Capt. Von Trapp), Nazi movies: love. Can't wait to watch this with the fam.

  4. I remember watching the Scarlet and the Black awhile ago with my mom, but it has been forever ago, so I'll have to see if she still has it so I can watch it again!

    1. Well, if she doesn't have it, you can stream it from Amazon for $2.99. Nope, I'm not an Amazon affiliate (anymore)because I live in the People's Republic of Illinois.

  5. I haven't watched the Fisherman movie...I may have to put that in our queue if it's on regular Netflix. I do remember watching the Scarlet and the Black when I was younger and it was really good.

    1. Have you seen the Cary Elwes/Jon Voight JPII movie? It's very well done, much much better than I had expected.

    2. Cary Elwes is ever so dreamy

  6. Well, as far as pope movies go, I'm more for comedies. These are hilarious, most in Italian. http://www.boxoffice.com/articles/2012-04-the-six-best-papal-pics

For movies actually RECOMMENDED by the Vatican (who knew!), try: http://cinepad.com/vatican.htm

This is part of why I love this Five Favorites, because it's a great way to learn about new things.

Frankly, I've never tried the Bootstraps, but everything else made by that Hollywood brand is awesome. The fashion tape is perfect for both repairing hem-falling crises, and keeping your a-little-too-gapey blouse from giving people in the pews an eyeful(as a pianist in full view of the congregation, this was really important)!

  7. So glad you dropped by...always fun to meet another St. Louis sister! Okay, so I totally gotta ask..."where'd you go to high school?" LOL Love me some gooey butter cake...and toasted ravioli...and Imo's pizza...I may or may not have a love affair with food. I haven't seen any of the movies you mentioned, so I will have to try and locate! Never been to Chuck's Boots, but I'm thinking I might have to take firstborn there...she's a true cowgirl at heart. We've only gotten boots from non-western/boot shops (think DSW warehouse) and she's dying for a "real" pair!

  8. I have the book of "The Scarlett and the Black" but I haven't gotten around to reading it.

  9. This is the first I've heard of "Boot Straps"! What a brilliant idea. I just love the Hollywood line. Thanks for the tip!
